International Veterans' Competitions

There are a number of international competitions for Veteran fencers.

Veteran World Championships

The Federation Internationale d'Escrime sponsors a World Veterans' Fencing Championships every year.

All competitors in the World Veterans' Championships must be aged 50 or above on the day of the event.

Unlike other World Championships, the World Veterans' Championships consists of individual events only: there are no team competitions.

Participants are divided into two groups according to the age appearing on their passport: 50-59 and 60+. A fencer may fence in one category only.

A fencer must be selected by the AFF in order to represent Australia at the Veteran World Championships. For details of eligibility and selection processes, see the Elite Fencers page of this website, or the separate AFF website.

Veteran Oceania Championships

The Oceania Veterans' Championships is held every two years, normally in conjunction with the host nation's National Championships.

All competitors in the Oceania Veterans' Championships must be aged 40 or above on the day of the event. The Championships normally consists individual events, but no team events.

Any Australian fencer who meets the age category may compete in the Veteran Oceania Championships, although entries and team selections are managed by the AFF. For details, see the Elite Fencers page of this website, or the separate AFF website.

Veteran Commonwealth Championships

The Commonwealth Veterans' Championships is held every two years, and is open to competitors from those nations that form the Commonwealth Veterans' Fencing Association (of which Australia is one).

All competitors in the Commonwealth Veterans' Championships must be aged 40 or above on the day of the event. The Championships normally consists of both individual and team events.

Note that the Commonwealth Veterans' Fencing Association is not formally affiliated with the Commonwealth Fencing Federation. As such, the Australian Fencing Federation does not recognise the Commonwealth Veterans Championships as an official event. It is therefore the responsibility of individual fencers to place their entries with the organising body, and to liaise with each other in arranging teams.
