NSWFA Age-based CompetitionsPage content: Registration : Entries : Equipment : Competition format : Competition timetable : Useful documents NSW Fencing runs competitions for younger fencers in the following age categories:
Eligibility to fence in these events is based on the fencer's age as at 1 January of the current calendar year. RegistrationEntrants in Under-11 and Under-13 competitions must be either registered with the NSWFA Inc. Entrants in Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 competitions must be affilated with NSWFA Inc. Affiliation is a more expensive option, but enables the fencer to compete in the full range of competitions, up to and including AFF tournaments. Registration only entitles the fencer to compete in NSW Schools, Novice and the abovementioned age-based competitions. Registration can be upgraded to affiliation if the fencer later decides they want to compete in a broader range of events. Online registration/affiliation (secure credit card payment) can be done at any time. Registration/affiliation can also be organised on the morning of a competition. Full details of affiliation/registration (including current costs) are available on the separate Membership page of this website. EntriesNSWFA age-based competitions can be entered and paid for on the day. To ensure eligibility to fence, all competitors must enter by the published roll call time. If you are travelling a long distance (i.e. from outside Metropolitan Sydney) and want to ensure that the Technical Director knows you are attending, you may ring on 0414 392 895 (or leave voicemail). Entry fees are $20 per person for the first weapon, and $5 for any subsequent weapons. EquipmentAll NSWFA age-based competitions are fenced using electrical apparatus. All competitors must wear full fencing uniform. The only exception is that for Under-11 and Under-13 competitions, tracksuit pants may be worn instead of fencing breeches. For a detailed explanation of fencing uniforms, see the Equipment Requirements page of this website. NSW Fencing has equipment available for hire at all Under-11 and Under-13 competitions. It is advisable, but not mandatory, to contact the equipment officer and book your requirements in advance. For more information, see the Equipment Hire page of this website. If you need to hire equipment for Under-15, Under-17 or Under-20 competitions, you must book in advance with the equipment officer. If equipment is not booked, it will not be brought to the competition venue. Competition formatIn general, age-based competitions are fenced using the standard competition format, with a round of pools, followed by a Direct Elimination leading to an overall winner. Medals are awarded to the top four fencers. However, some Under-11 and Under-13 events are fenced using the "flex format", to ensure that the event runs for no more than three hours. The competition timetable specifies if an Under-11 or Under-13 event is "flex format". For full details, see the Competition Format page of this website. Competition timetable
