Junior Fencers

A Junior Fencer is anyone under the age of 20, as at 1 January of the current calendar year.

The NSW Fencing Association offers a variety of individual and team fencing competitions to juniors. At the elite level, the Australian Fencing Federation (AFF) and Federation Internationale d'Escrime (FIE) also run events for junior fencers.

Eligibility to compete in age categories is determined by the fencer's age on 1 January of the year of the competition. It is always permissible to fence "up" an age category (i.e. a 14 year old may fence Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 if desired) if the fencer feels that they have sufficient experience for this. Similarly, a fencer may compete in an Open event when they feel ready for it (a NSW Novice competition may be a good introduction to fencing open events).

There are also training camps (and, occasionally, tours) specifically designed for Junior fencers.
