Commissions

The NSWFA executive has compiled a set of Commissions for the ongoing assistance and management of certain important issues in NSW fencing. These Commissions would be delegated the responsibilities as listed under each. Each Commissions will be headed by a member of the executive or someone delegated by the executive.

Selection Commission

Strategic Objective

Enhanced performance.

Responsibilities

  1. Draft selection policies for each age group to replace the existing policies, and submit for ratification by the Executive. Such policies should consider the rankings of each fencer and such other criteria the Commission recommends to the Executive.
  2. Select teams to represent NSW in all AFF competitions for all age groups, subject to ratification by the Executive.
  3. Perform other functions which are delegated to the Commission from time to time by the Executive.

Draft Selection Policy

The NSWFA Executive has prepared a discussion paper on selection policy to encourage member views on this topic. All comments will be considered carefully in the drafting of a selection policy to guide the Selection Commission.

Junior Development

Strategic Objective

Increase participation.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and manage the annual Schools Championships and Schools League competitions.
  2. Liaise with schools to promote fencing in their sports curriculum, and to be involved in the above competitions.
  3. Develop program to encourage more involvement by school fencers in clubs and NSWFA competitions.
  4. Seek to introduce fencing to new schools.
  5. Manage processes relating to the Prohibited Employment Declaration legislation, and recruit and train Child Protection Officers.

Referees

Strategic Objective

Enhance performance.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and manage referee training programs at the club and NSWFA level, by use of the AFF approved referee training courses.
  2. Develop career path options for NSW referees to FIE accredited level.
  3. Develop referee reward & remuneration schemes to encourage attendance at competitions.

Fundraising

Strategic Objective

Strengthen finances.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan & manage the Friends of Fencing (NSW) project.
  2. Develop sponsorship & advertising programs to attract revenue to NSWFA through website and other resources.
  3. Plan and manage grassroots fundraising activities.

Coaching

Strategic Objective

Enhance performance.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and manage regular coach accreditation programs and courses/clinics for NSW coaches.
  2. Liaise with the National Coaching Director to facilitate the accreditation and re-accreditation of coaches.
  3. Monitor the ASC's accreditation records and ensure coaches are informed of their status, and the need to re-accredit when due.

Technical

Strategic Objective

Effective organisation.

Responsibilities

  1. Oversee NSWFA equipment and plan maintenance and replacement program.
  2. Recommend to the Executive equipment purchase and facility upgrades.
  3. Plan NSWFA & AFF events in NSW from an equipment perspective to improve the quality and efficiency of these.

Responsibilities

  1. Plan and publish the annual competition timetable for NSWFA (including schools) events.
  2. Liaise with venue providers and develop options for programming all events with special focus on AFF events to be held in NSW.

  1. Develop a plan to secure better media coverage of fencing.
  2. Seek opportunities to promote fencing through media, events and community activities.

Increase participation.

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and manage plans to increase participation in fencing in NSW at all levels.
  2. Liaise with clubs and coaches to implement development programs and work to increase the number and effectiveness of clubs.
  3. Develop and manage regional fencing programs involving regional competitions and support for regional clubs.
