Commissions

The main work of the Association is undertaken by a group of Commissions, each of which is chaired by a member of the Executive.

Selectors

There are two groups of Selectors: Senior and Junior. They are responsible for selecting the teams to represent NSW at the team events in the various Australian National Championships: Open, Under 20, Under 17, Under 15 and Schools. (NB It is not necessary to be selected to compete in the individual events at these competitions - any affiliated NSW fencer may enter these events.)

Selections are made in accordance with the NSW Fencing Association Selection Policy.

Coaching

Convenor: Graham Markey

The NSWFA recognises that it is in the best interests of the sport to have as many accredited coaches as possible. This especially applies to providing fencing coaching in schools.

The Coaching Commission manages matters such as:

  • Providing incentives for coaches to become accredited by offering comprehensive insurance coverage.
  • Conducting a Level 1 coaching course each year.
  • Providing administrative support for candidates to obtain or upgrade their accreditation.
  • Maintaining a database of accredited coaches on its website, and by referring enquiries received to accredited coaches.

The Commission also considers issues such as course structures, programs for foil/epee/sabre, regional coach and programs and development.

Further information may be found on the Coaching and Courses pages of this website.
