NEWS FROM NEWCASTLE

9 February 2017

Newcastle PCYC hosted a coaching course in January 2017 for those who wanted to achieve the “Basic Level” certificate, specifically designed to satisfy the increasing demand of fencing coaching licenses in regional NSW.

NSW Head Coach, Maestro Antonio Signorello, ran a 4-hours course which covered an introduction to basic fencing, a general training plan for a fencing session, a primary fencing skills’ development, and an overview of group coaching.

“I’ve found a group of enthusiastic fencing lovers, athletes, and aspiring coaches, from both Newcastle and Armidale. Coach Sam Hughes has done a very good job and has left an important legacy that deserves to be carried on. It was a fantastic day spent with kind people eager to improve their knowledge and happy to further develop their clubs. I’ve always believed NSW has great resources in the regional areas and we want to keep supporting these clubs anyway we can, including welcoming regional fencers at the new dedicated fencing centre in Alexandria. I’d like to particularly thank the PCYC of Newcastle, John Frew, and Sylvain Jaquet who wonderfully organized the entire event.” – Maestro Signorello
